El Corte De Madera Open Space

A friend and I hiked a 7-mile loop at the EL Corte De Madera Open Space on Saturday. 7 miles shouldn't be bad at all, but it was a pretty tough hike. Not sure if I've mentioned this before, some friends and I run one round of Lake Merced Saturday mornings, which is about 4 miles long. We started the hike after the post-run brunch, and the trails also has a lot of significant elevation changes, so everything adds up and make it pretty tough. On the other hand, this hike does have some cool points of interests as rewards, and they are the million-year-old rock formation, a giant tree, and a summit viewpoint.

Most of the trails also allow bike rides, so you'll be giving way to bikers from time to time. There's something very weird about this place though. All the trails seem to be well signed, and I've been here once before, still we got lost several times with maps in our hands. We planned to visit the rock formation but we didn't realized we went the wrong way until it was pretty far from the correct trail. We were exhausted to go back, so we just headed back to the parking lot.

You do can hear the sound of streams during most of the hike, and the blooming of the wild flowers decorated the trails. and even the place is supposed to be an Open Space, most of the trails are shaded. It was a shame we got lost and didn't visit the rock formation, I'll for sure take some pictures of it for the next visit.
